"Summer Interior" by Edward Hopper
This picture presents a girl sitting on the floor of her bedroom. The environment looks peaceful, with a comfortable bed on the right and soft sunlight coming in from the window. The color of the quilt, the fireplace and the clothes of the girl is white, which also gives the sense of peace.
However, in contrast to the peaceful environment, the girl's heart is agitated.
She is leaning against the bed with no pants on, which shows that she is very relaxed and familiar with the bed. She looks so comfortable that she doesn't want to move or change a gesture. The sunlight is shining in from the window and touches the toes of her left foot. She is staring at the sunlight, which seems that she is attracted by the sun. Maybe she feels the warm of the sunlight on her toes but she is so comfortable and used to her bed that she doesn't want to leave her bed, so she is struggling in her heart weather to move into the sunlight entirely or not.
From my point of view, this scene suggests that the girl is used to her current comfortable but decadent life and doesn't want a change. However, she is attracted by a new type of life which can bring hope to her life. Taking the hope also means she need to say goodbye to her old life which she is used to and comfortable with. Therefore, she is struggling weather to take the new hopeful life or stay no change. Maybe she is thinking weather to marry to that man or weather to change her job, which both will change her current life a lot but also can make her not so decadent and give her hope.
To conclude, my narrative is: A decadent girl is struggling in her peaceful space weather to keep her old comfortable life or take the new hopeful life.
