First attempt - narrative and main artist work in the gallery

The narrative is : A successful businessman who loves art very much built this gallery to give the young artists opportunities to show their works. The main works are mixed media art.

The art work I want to put in the gallery is Victor Torres's "Buy American". Victor Torres is an young artist and "Buy American" is his first solo exhibition at Young Art.

These are all mixed media art which is a new kind of art and has a lot of potential in the art market.
"Torres’ large-scale assemblages are built like machines. His approach is unexpected compared to the chaotic nature of his materials. Objects are overlapped and juxtaposed with precision and as a result, each element is integral to the final form. In Untiltled (Dead Cat), the old splintered wood, dead cat and copper wire, dripping mud and cardboard bananas, are transformed into a single work while still retaining their individual identity. What is important is what happens when all the right parts come together. The composite is itself their discourse."
Therefore I decided to make this gallery like the feel of mixed object with objects overlapped and juxtaposed.

Project 3 - Site selection

I chose site one to build my gallery on. I like the narrow long shape feel as it may make people want to explore more in this shape.

The site is flanked by two two-storey buidlings so the light may come in mainly from the facade and the top. The gallery should be no more than two-storey high in order to match the surroundings.

There is a carpark beside the back of the site, which may be use in the design.

concept of my design

As my narrative describes a girl struggling in a peaceful environment, I want to design a building which gives the feeling of struggling. The picture above is an inspiration which I found it struggling.
This diagram shows the concept of my design of the plan. There are two space in this building with a spiral corridor connecting them. The corridor is designed to be frames of wood with no walls or roofs, because I want this corridor exposed to the exterior environment. The girl may walk in the struggling spiral corridor to struggle which direction to go, but she can still feel the peaceful outside environment. She can see the trees, the grass and the sheep on the pasture and can breathe in the fresh air outside and enjoy the sunshine.
This diagram shows the concept of my design for the elevation. The space on the left is facing north and that on the right if facing south. The left space is designed in the shape for direct sunlight, which indicates the new hopeful life as sunlight always represents the hope. The right space is designed in the shape of against sunshine, which indicates the old comfortable but decadent life as people may feel lazy and relaxed without direct sunlight

This diagram shows the design of the facades of the two spaces. The one facing north uses curtain wall in order to have more sunlight coming in. The one facing south uses small narrow windows to avoid huge area of light coming in, as the girl may have the feel of decadence when seeing the indirect sunlight squeezing through the narrow window.
