My narrative is: A successful businessman who
loves art very much built this gallery to give the young artists
opportunities to show their works. The main works are
mixed media art. The three key words are "love","opportunity"and "mixed media", so I designed the plan of this gallery like the shape shown in the picture below. It looks like two media mixing together and the consistence of the shape of the two parts indicates love as the two parts can combine perfectly. The long narrow corridor in the middle represents the opportunities, and people should find their way out.
It can be seen from the diagram above that the three line shape is used in both the plan and the section. The section of the stairs is also of the shape.
This repetitive use of the same shape in both plan and section is inspired from my precedent study - mother's house. One of the characteristic of mother's house is that the plan and section of is are of the same shape. I think it is an interesting idea so I just apply it to my design.
The circulation of the gallery is bit complex as there are many ways to go to to the same destination, which is also a representation of opportunities.
